Process Challenges In The Pharma Industry: Preparing For The 'New Normal'

A blog about the life of a process in the Pharmaceutical industry written two months ago would be completely different to one written now.

We have a new world, a new way of seeing things, a new way of acting – at home, in public, and in the workplace. This 'new normal' will most likely be with us for quite a while, the impact will probably last years.

Businesses Are Driven By People

The Pharma industry is highly governed, with compliance to regulations a must. The industry is cited as one that will be least affected by COVID-19, but it will still feel the impact, as will every industry, as businesses are driven by their people. What the industry produces will still be vital, even more than before, but the people working there are human. They have the same fears, exposures, frailties that affect those in any other walk of life.

How many people will be allowed back into the workplace (maybe they have not even left, if they are considered essential workers)? In an already highly regulated industry, there will be more rules to which they need comply. Remote working will also need to be considered for them (as for everyone) – where possible. How do you keep everything visible, compliant and make sure nothing falls through the cracks?

Digitization Is Imperative

One of the most meaningful things to do - digitize. Remove paper. Make it safer remove the need to hand sheets to colleagues, help keep them socially distanced, and use digital forms. Every webinar or blog from the leading consultancy companies have stated that digitization will be imperative, not a ‘nice to have’ anymore, but a necessity.

The industry already uses a lot of technology but alas falls foul, as a lot of industries do, of over-reliance on the spreadsheet and the Inbox. Processes like ‘Artworks’ tend to be successfully digitized already but the likes of management of PV Signal Detection uses the spreadsheet to great effect. This is a time to control the controllable. Since we will be working very differently from now on, we need to evolve the environment that we work in. In order to maintain/improve efficiency whether you are at home or in the workplace – you need to digitize the processes that are core to the success of your business.

Go With No Code

The good news is that you can begin to digitize immediately. You do not need to employ coders. You can get the majority of your processes like Artworks & PV Signal Detection created using a ‘no code’ platform called FlowForma Process Automation. It’s already proven in pharma and many other industries. With ‘no code’ it means your processes will be up and running in up to a tenth of the time of coded systems.

Don’t wait around – the ‘new normal’ is here right now – show your employees you’re doing everything in your power to improve the working environment and the added benefit is you save time, money and become more compliant. Everybody wins.
